Back to the Dark Ages!

Did Yemen lose its battle against ignorance?

Throughout its modern history, Yemen has always been categorized as backward nation. However, few travelers, orientalists, and specialized foreigners in the culture and history of this country had the opportunity to witness the long and continuous social struggle of its people, to break free from the oppression of darkness. In addition, the memory of Yemenis still retains verbal narratives passed down through old generations, in addition to what was written by ancient Yemeni writers who succeeded in grabbing their right to learn, write and date, especially those who resorted to enlightenment and modernization.

Nevertheless, after all the sacrifices and hard attempts, the bitter truth must be told, and should not be ignored, after all these setbacks, it became clear that the (ignorance behavior) practiced on Yemenis, in every conflict cycle, takes on an official feature, or let’s say, organized and intended, for selfish and narcissistic investment in people's need for livelihood, and their poor awareness of the values of freedom and justice.

It is obvious how the war machine, which has been grinding the country for more than six years, impacted the education sector, so that one does not have the slightest doubt, that the backward and ignorant (citizen) was the end target to be just “a follower” in order to make the country absolute ruler, and setting for rule of jungle law which characterized by one-sided vision and behavior. Then, did the conflicting parties leave an opportunity to say something less than that, after they have intruded into people's lives, and perceive their attempt to enter the gate of the twenty-first century armed with science, as a significant threat that undermine their interests?

The media and independent opinion platforms have a doubled responsibility in placing the future of the Yemeni generations among its top priorities to prevent further waste, destruction and systematic sabotage of the education, either by studying and analyzing the phenomena, whether positive or negative, and or by shedding more light and exposing the behavior of the conflicting parties who are responsible for undermining the education of Yemenis and robbing their right to a better future.

There is no place in Yemen today - despite the power and the will of corruption and the corrupters - for all those who believe that they will defraud the era, and twist its neck towards the medieval ages, and there is no place except for the modern citizen who still constitutes the missing link in catching up with this remote part of the earth, in the twenty-one century; the era of silicon and the aspiration to conquer the space.

To reach that end, the "Khuyut" platform contributes to this file in conjunction with the world's celebration of World Education Day; January 24, to present a variety of materials between the historical presentation and systematic analysis of the progression of education in Yemen, and the press report that presents an aspect of the current reality of education, including the status of the current generation that is now supposed to receive a good education, based on the assumed accumulation of experience and practice in modern education for more than half a century.

One of the goals of this file is to be reminded of the fact that there is an entire generation of Yemenis, who may be lost, frustrated and destroyed, and that their support is badly needed as the support of the entire educational process comes within the efforts to establish peace and discourage subversive behavior, whether official or otherwise. Everyone has always known that Yemen's departure of the ages of war and darkness is essentially and inextricably linked to leaving the state of ignorance and half of the knowledge that the sages of nations have long considered "more dangerous than ignorance."

In the most important aspect, attention must be paid to the scientific competencies produced by the educational process, at its weak pace, at least since the revolutions of September 26, 1962 and October 14, 1963, in all fields, where personal interest and perseverance in learning played a key role in distinguishing it and preserving it what could be preserved in terms of educational and cultural gains for the country at large.
